The Cape Breton Eagles have acquired forward Shawn Element after completing a pair of trades to open the second part of the QMJHL’s winter trading period.
The Eagles have traded forward Brooklyn Kalmikov (2001-04-21) and a 2021 ninth round draft choice to Victoriaville in exchange for defenseman Zachary Riel (2001-03-04) and Rimouski’s first round choice in 2020.
The Eagles then moved Riel, forward David Doucet (2003-03-14), Rimouski’s first round choice in 2020, a second round draft choice in 2022, and a third round choice in 2021 in exchange for Element (2000-04-23), a sixth round draft pick in 2021 (originally belonging to Quebec) and a ninth round draft pick in 2021 (originally belonging to Blainville-Boisbriand).
Following the two trades the Eagles have added Element and a sixth round pick in 2021, while dealing Kalmikov, Doucet, a second round draft choice in 2022, and a third round choice in 2021.

Kalmikov (2001-04-21) was drafted by the Eagles in the first round in 2017. This season, his third in the QMJHL, he has 23 points in 33 games. Doucet (2003-03-14) was drafted by the Eagles in the second round this past June and he has one goal in 33 games.
The QMJHL season resumes on December 28th, when the Cape Breton Eagles and Halifax Mooseheads will take part in the fourth annual Hurley Cup, a two game, total goal series. The two teams will play on Saturday the 28th in Halifax at 7 PM, and at Centre 200 on Sunday at 4 PM.
