The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will honour the champion men’s and women’s CAPERS soccer teams from Cape Breton University on Sunday, November 26th. 50 members from both CAPERS teams, including players and staff, will be in attendance when the Screaming Eagles take on the Charlottetown Islanders at 4 PM. The men’s CAPERS will partake in the ceremonial opening faceoff while the women’s CAPERS will be honoured at the second intermission. Members from both teams will also take part in promotional activities throughout the evening.
The men’s CAPERS captured their first national championship this season, defeating the University of Montreal in the final match. On the way to the title game the CAPERS were undefeated in regular season play and captured their fifth AUS title in the last 11 years. CBU’s Cory Bent was named the MVP of finals tournament, and Deano Morley was honoured as National Coach of the Year.
The women’s CAPERS also produced an undefeated regular season and for the second time in team history medalled at the national level, finishing second in the country. This was the ninth time in the last 15 years the women’s CAPERS captured the AUS title. Ciera Disipio was named AUS MVP and a 1st Team All-Canadian, while Ness Timmons was named the National Coach of the Year.
