Eagles Ready To Finish First Half In Charlottetown

The Cape Breton Eagles will finish the first half of the season tonight as they complete a two game set with the league leading Charlottetown Islanders.

The momentum swung back and forth last night, with the Eagles striking first, then rallying from down 2-1 to tie the game.  But a three goal third period (with an empty netter) gave the home side the victory  While the Eagles competed hard against the powerful Charlottetown team, it was a performance filled with depth for the Isles- five different goal scorers and 11 different point getters.  That included production from the blueline as both Oscar Plandowski & Noah Laaouan collected two assists.

The Eagles did manage to hold league leading goal scorer Patrick Guay off the scoresheet as well as limiting star 20 year old Xavier Simoneau to just one assist.  Simoneau, who has a whopping 43 points in 23 games, was returning to the Charlottetown lineup after a four game absence due to injury.

While the Eagles received production from their own star 20 year old, a first period goal from captain Sean Larcohelle, they received bad news not long after when Larcochelle left the game with injury.  His status for tonight is unknown. Another 20 year, Eagles forward Émile Hegarty-Aubin notched two assists in last night’s loss for his second consecutive multi-point game.  (Larochelle’s goal in the first period was the only one of the opening twenty minutes.  Last night marked just the second time this season the Eagles lost in regulation after scoring the first goal.)

Coming into tonight’s game, the Eagles have a record of 7-19-5 (5-8-2 on the road).  Charlottetown has a QMJHL best record of 21-7-2 (10-4-1 at home.)   Charlottetown has won all three meetings this year, with last night’s being the first meeting on PEI between the teams.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast on Eastlink Television, and also is available for purchase online at You can also hear all the action beginning with the pre-game show with Patrick McNeil at 6:30 PM (7PM puck drop) on 1270 AM CJCB or online at
