Screaming Eagles Suffer fourth straight loss

  The Saint John Sea Dogs extended their winning streak to 14 straight games as they pounded the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Station in Saint John, New Brunswick.

  The 14 game winning streak for the Sea Dogs is the longest winning streak in the Canadian Hockey League this season.

  Maxime Villemaire and Jonathan Huberdeau each had a pair of goals in the game for Saint John while Nathan Beaulieu, Ryan Tesink, Danick Gauthier, Tomas Jurco and Charlie Coyle scored single markers for the Sea Dogs who improve to 44-14-0-2. Jonathan Brunelle scored the lone goal in the game for the Screaming Eagles who fall to 21-36-1-2 on the season.

  Nathan Beaulieu got the scoring started in the game for Saint John as he scored his ninth goal of the season at 9:51 of the first period, Ryan Tesink was given the lone assist on the goal.

  The Sea Dogs would take a 2-0 lead as captain Jonathan Huberdeau netted his 21st goal of the season at the 1:40 mark of the second period, the goal was unassisted.

  Tomas Jurco gave the Port City club a 3-0 lead as he found the back of the net for his 29th goal of the season at 9:38 of the middle frame, Zack Phillips picked up the only assist on the goal.

  Less then a minute later, Saint John native Ryan Tesink made the score 4-0 as he buried his 10th goal of the season beating Screaming Eagle goaltender William Racicot, Maxime Villemaire and Stephen MacAulay were given credit for the helpers.

  Jonathan Huberdeau added to the Saint John lead as he fired home his second goal of the game (22nd of the season) at 10:54 of the second period, Charlie Coyle and Danick Gauthier recorded the assists.

  The Sea Dogs would make the score 6-0 at 16:08 of the middle period as Danick Gauthier notched his 41st goal of the season with lone helper going to Charlie Coyle.

  Saint John was not done there as they took a 7-0 lead on the power play at 19:02 of the second period as Maxime Villemaire scored his 14th goal of the season, Stephen MacAulay and Ryan Tesink were awarded with the assists.

  The Screaming Eagles would cut the Sea Dogs lead to six as Jonathan Brunelle found the back of the net for his 26th goal of the season beating Sea Dog goaltender Sébastien Auger on the power play at 9:50 of the third period, Alexandre Lavoie and Kyle Farrell picked up the helpers on the goal.

  Maxime Villemaire made the score 8-1 for the Sea Dogs as he fired home his second goal of the game (15th of the season) on the power play at 17:18 of the final frame, Stephen MacAulay and Ryan Tesink added the assists.

  Saint John would add another goal before the contest was over as 19 year old Charle Coyle buried his 11th goal of the season at the 18:33 mark of the third period, Zack Phillips recorded the only helper on the goal.

  Sébastien Auger made 15 saves in the win for Saint John, his record improves to 12-2-0-2 while William Racicot turned aside 35 of 44 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 8-12-0-0.

  The Screaming Eagles next game is on Thursday (March 1st) as they travel to Bathurst, New Brunswick to face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm from the K.C. Not in the lineup for Saint John: Forwards, Devon Oliver-Dares (broken Collarbone) and Jason Cameron along with defenseman Ian Saab

Potvin and Leduc back in Screaming Eagles lineup: Left winger Dany Potvin and defenseman Loic Leduc were both back in the Screaming Eagles lineup on Sunday afternoon. Potvin was suspended four games for checking to the head by the league while Leduc was suspended two games for cross-checking. Potvin was a -4 in his return while Leduc was a -2.

Winning streak extended to 14 games: With the win the Saint John Sea Dogs extend their winning streak to 14 straight games. The streak is currently the longest in the Canadian Hockey League this season.

Four point afternoon for Tesink: Saint John Sea Dog right winger Ryan Tesink recorded a four point afternoon on Sunday against the Screaming Eagles. The Saint John native posted a goal and three assists along with a +2 rating in the win.

Final shots on goal: 44-16 in favor of Saint John.

Cape Breton went 1/4 on the power play while Saint John went 2/5.
