Screaming Eagles Finish Homestand Against Foreurs
The Cape Breton Screaming will open the month of December by finishing a three game home stand tonight as the Val-d’Or Foreurs come to town. The Eagles are fresh off a victory Thursday night over the Foreurs’ biggest rivals, the league leading Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Coming into tonight the Eagles are 5-0-1 in their last six games.
Tonight’s contest is a match up between the sixth place teams in each conference. Val-d’Or is sixth in the Western Conference with a record of 10-14-4 (3-7-5 on the road), while in the stronger Eastern Conference the Screaming Eagles are 15-11-2 (7-6 on home ice). A young Val-‘dor squad had showed improvement in winning four straight games but have now last the last two, including the opening game of their Maritime swing in Saint John last night (4-3 in overtime).
The Eagles will look to replicate their big victory over the Huskies which was very much a team effort. Eight different players notched points in a 3-2 victory, and Kevin Mandolese stopped 35 of 37 shots. Gabriel Proulx opened the scoring for Cape Breton and now has goals in four consecutive games.
Val-d’Or is a team in a youth movement, with two 16 year olds and eight 17 year olds on the roster. This includes two 2017 first rounders (forward Jeremy Michel and defenseman Maxence Guenette) and two 2018 first round choices (blueliner Jérémie Biakabutuka and forward William Provost.) On the opposite end of the age spectrum, a 20 year old forward and a 20 year old defenseman are leading the offense- centre Julien Tessier has 28 points in 28 games, while blueliner Félix Boivin has 25 points in 28 games. Unfortunately for the Foreurs their lone NHL drafted player, David Noel (St. Louis), is currently inactive and has held to six games due to an eye injury.
Tonight’s game goes at 7 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the Centre 200 box office, by phone at 902-564-2200 or online at https://tickets.capebreton.ca/Online/default.asp Go Eagles Go!
