Kevin Mandolese notched a shutout in his hometown as the Screaming Eagles kicked off a six game road trip with a 4-0 win in Blainville-Boisbriand.
The Eagles carried the play from game’s beginning, allowing the Armada only six shots in each of the three periods. Mitchell Balmas started the scoring, putting one over top of Olivier Adam who was making his first ever QMJHL start. The Eagles lead doubled before period’s end, as Isiah Campbell converted a nifty passing play off a face-off and the period finished with the visitors up 2-0.
There would be fisticuffs int the second stanza as Eagles captain Declan Smith and Blainville-Boisbriand’s Alec Reid exchanged plenty of right hands. Those two were still in the box when Olivier Bourret would tap in a rebound in front of the net to push the Eagles lead to 3-0.
Despite each team only earning one power play in the first 40 minutes, the third period would be quite different with nine minor penalties assessed in total. But the the only goal came at even strength, when Egor Sokolov swept around the crease to beat Olivier Adam for the game’s final goal.
Mandolese stopped all 18 shots in picking up the shutout. Adan stopped 32 of 36 shots in the loss.
The Screaming Eagles will continue their road trip tomorrow night in Drummondville. Puck drop is at 8 PM Atlantic time, and you can catch all the action beginning with the pre-game show with Patrick McNeil at 7:30 on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com.
