Fourth place in the QMJHL’s Eastern Conference, as well as the season series, is on the line tonight as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host the Charlottetown Islanders in the second game of a weekend set. The Screaming Eagles will be wearing green tonight as the team holds its 13th annual Irish Jersey night.
Last night Charlottetown struck first in the weekend set, winning 5-4 in a shootout at Centre 200 and pulling ahead of the Screaming Eagles in the Eastern Conference standings. With a record of 37-20-7 (17-13-2 on the road), Charlottetown is one point ahead of Cape Breton (37-21-6 and 19-9-4 at home). Both teams have four games remaining including tonight’s matchup. Moncton and Chicoutimi both sit three points behind the Screaming Eagles, with Moncton holding a game in hand on the other three teams. Tonight Moncton hosts Halifax, while Chicoutimi will visit Victoriaville.
Tonight’s matchup is the ninth and final time these two teams will square off. Thus far this season each club has won four games, with each team possessing a shootout win and another one of the Eagles victories coming in overtime. Following two regulation wins at Centre 200, last night was the first time Cape Breton lost to Charlottetown at home in the 2018-19 campaign.
Last night’s game was a back and forth encounter that saw both teams rally- the Islanders from down 3-1 and the Screaming Eagles from down 4-3. Charlottetown’s Zachary Beauregard and Cape Breton’s Mitchell Balmas led their respective teams, both scoring twice and both recording a tying goal.
Tonight’s contest is the thirteenth annual Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ Irish Jersey Raffle in support of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will be sporting their custom designed green, Irish-themed jerseys, which are to be raffled off in support of the Cancer Patient Care Fund. In addition to the jersey raffle, a winning ticket will be drawn from tickets purchased last night on a custom set of Bauer goalie equipment that will be worn by Screaming Eagles goaltender Kevin Mandolese in tonight’s game.
During the game on Saturday, fans will be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win one of the 23 green jerseys. Raffle tickets for the jerseys are only $5 each and will be available only at Centre 200. The winning tickets will be drawn during the third period and the winners will join the Eagles on the ice.
This evening’s game goes at 7 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the Centre 200 box office, by phone at 902-564-2200 or online at https://tickets.capebreton.ca/Online/default.asp Go Eagles Go!
