Eagles Look To Stave Off Elimination In Game Four Against Islanders

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have their backs against the wall as they host the Charlottetown Islanders in game four of their best of seven second round series.   It’s quick turnaround for both the Eagles and Islanders as game three took place on Wednesday in Sydney.  The Eagles rallied from down 3-0 to force overtime but Kameron Kielly scored the winning goal to put Charlottetown in the driver’s seat.

Game three marked the first time the Screaming Eagles lost in overtime in the 2017 post-season, having won three times in overtime (all at home) in round one.  Wednesday’s game was the first time in the playoffs that Charlottetown required an extra session.  Tonight’s game marks the second time this spring Cape Breton has faced elimination, the first coming in game 7 against Gatineau.   The Eagles in their current situation can draw inspiration from the series with the Olympiques in which Gatineau rallied down from 3-0 to force the deciding game.

Giovanni Fiore sparked the Cape Breton comeback in game three with a power play goal, in the process breaking a drought of 24 opportunities without a goal on the man advantage.  Fiore’s second goal of the game would be his eighth of the post-season, tying him for second among all players in the playoffs.  He also led the QMJHL in goals in the regular season with 52.

For Charlottetown their big names are continue to deliver.  Daniel Sprong opened the scoring on Wednesday night, and Filip Chlapik posted another three point night.  Cape Breton blueliner Olivier LeBlanc has done his part to shut down the big guns, posting a +1 rating through three games while logging a substantial amount of ice time.

All eyes in the QMJHL are on the Screaming Eagles/Islanders game this evening as it is the lone contest in the league.  The schedule for the Cape Breton/Charlottetown series was pushed back a day due to an issue with the ice surface on Tuesday, pushing game three to Wednesday and game four to Thursday.

Tonight’s game four goes at 7 PM at Centre 200.  Go Eagles Go!
