Eagles Doubled By Sea Dogs

  Two third period goals in a span of 13 seconds was the difference as the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 4-2 in front of 4,114 fans on hand at Harbour Station on Wednesday.

  With the win, Saint John snaps a four game losing streak, while Cape Breton has dropped their last five contests.

  Matthew Highmore led the way for Saint John with two goals and an assist, while Connor Donaghey and Stephen Anderson chipped in with single markers for the Sea Dogs, who improve to 22-37-1-0.

  Clark Bishop and Stephen Woodworth each had a goal for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 12-41-3-5 on the year.

  The Screaming Eagles opened the scoring in the game at 4:22 of the first period as Clark Bishop scored his sixth goal of the season, Bryce Milson had the only assist on the goal.

  The hometown Sea Dogs would tie the game less than a minute later as Matthew Highmore found the back of the net for his third goal of the season at 5:11 of the opening period, Connor Donaghey and Marcus Cuomo were awarded with the helpers on the goal.

  Cape Breton took a 2-1 lead at 5:43 of the second period as captain Stephen Woodworth buried his sixth goal of the season, Michael Clarke and Gareth Nicholson picked up the assists.

  Saint John would again tie the game as Connor Donaghey netted his third goal of the season at 2:43 of the third period, Matthew Highmore and Marcus Cuomo added the helpers.

  Matthew Highmore gave the Sea Dogs a 3-2 lead as he notched his second goal of the game (fourth of the season) at 11:32 of the third period, Connor Donaghey and Jurij Repe recorded the assists.

  The Sea Dogs took a two-goal lead just 13 seconds later at 11:45 as Stephen Anderson scored his 10th goal of the season, Oliver Cooper found the score sheet with the lone helper on the goal.

  Sébastien Auger made 39 saves in the win for Saint John, his record improves to 21-27-1-0, while Alex Bureau turned aside 30 of 34 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 5-8-1-0.


  The Screaming Eagles return to the ice on Sunday, March 3rd when they host the Victoriaville Tigres at Centre 200. The game marks the clubs “Kids Game”, which will see events taking place for the childern throughout the afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 4:00p.m.

Not in the lineup for Cape Breton: Timothé Simard, Loic Leduc (Lower Body), Kyle Farrell (Concussion), Cole Murphy (Upper Body), Jakub Culek (Upper Body) and William Carrier (Lower Body).

Not in the lineup for Saint John: Forwards, Brett Malone and Justin Dickinson (left the team, personal reasons) along with defensemen Steven Duda and Jeremy Doucet.

Légaré Returns To Lineup: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles left winger Charles-Eric Légaré returned to the clubs lineup on Wednesday. Légaré returned home to Quebec last week due to personal reasons. The 18-year-old was a +1 in the game.

Final Shots On Goal: 41-34 in favor of Cape Breton.

Cape Breton went 0/1 on the power play, while Saint John went 0/3.
