Batherson Leads Armada To Victory In Centre 200 Return
SYDNEY- Drake Batherson was honoured prior to the game, and the former Eagle took centre stage as his two goals lead the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada to a 4-1 victory over the Screaming Eagles at Centre 200 on Sunday.
Batherson’s two goals would come in the first period, but it would take some time for the game to find its first red light. It looked as though a trend would continue as for the last three Screaming Eagles games prior to Sunday, there were no goals scored in the first period. That would change at the 14:52 mark on an individual effort from Batherson. It was then the Armada power play that would go to work as Batherson would tip a point shot to put the visitors ahead 2-0 before period’s end.
Mathieu Boissonneault would add to the lead for the visitors in the middle stanza, scoring at the 6:11 mark as he fired a shot over the shoulder of Kevin Mandolese. However the Eagles would show push back in the second period, getting on the board with a power play blast from Ross MacDougall with under two minutes to play in the frame. Just 23 seconds later Cape Breton was sent back to the man advantage again, a power play that would carry over to the third period.
The Eagles were unable to score on that man advantage, and while they were able to kill off two more penalties of their own, could not get any closer on the scoreboard. Blainville-Boisbriand would earn an insurance marker from Jan Hladonik, who cashed in on a rebound after Alexander Katerinakis was denied on a breakway. There would be no further scoring in the contest.
Cape Breton did succeed in holding the league’s leading point getter Alex Barré-Boulet off the scoresheet. Heading into the game the Armada forward had 99 points and was on a 14 game point streak.
Emile Samson picked up the win in goal, stopping 22 of 23 shots. Mandolese took the loss, allowing four goals on 27 shots.
Next up the Screaming Eagles will wrap up the home stand with a pair of games against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday, February 16th, and Saturday, February 17th. Puck drop for both games is 7 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the Centre 200 box office, by phone at 902-564-2200 or online at https://tickets.capebreton.ca/Online/default.asp
