#18 MOMENT IN EAGLES HISTORY: FIORE’S FIVE GOAL NIGHT
On March 3rd, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will host a special 20th anniversary game against the Halifax Mooseheads. The Eagles are rolling back the clock two decades as fans will be able to attend the March 3rd contest at 1997 ticket prices. There will plenty of prizes and giveaways as well as live entertainment in the main concourse. Leading up to the big anniversary game we are counting down the top 20 moments in the history of the franchise.
#18: FIORE’S FIVE GOAL NIGHT
Giovanni Fiore leads the QMJHL with 41 goals this season, and if he wins the QMJHL’ s goal scoring race, he can point to a recording break night in Bathurst on December 17th, 2016, when he became the first Screaming Eagle to ever score five times in one game.
Fiore didn’t even need two full periods to complete the feat. He opened the night’s scoring on the power play at the 9:23 mark of the opening period, and collected his fifth goal of the evening at the 16:26 mark of the middle frame. #13 for Cape Breton added an assist to his five spot in a 7-2 rout over the Titan.
Three of Fiore’s goals came in the second period, and three of them came on the power play. One of his markers was unassisted, while five other Eagles would earn points on his goals, with Vasily Glotov earning three.
While over 150 players have scored five or more times in a game in league history, only 24 have done it since 1997-98. Fiore’s five spot was the first in the league in over a year and he was just the sixth skater to score five goals in one game in the last decade.
